Who We Are
We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.
When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal: to create a fitting, memorable and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.
Together, we'll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now, and in the future. Families who come to us know that years from now, they will have deep peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they've done their best to honor their loved one.
Our History
In a Brookshire Times article dated June 30th, 1955, the plans for a new funeral home were announced. The Milton H. Schmidt Funeral Home was designed to be a multi-purpose facility; it was the goal of the owners and their designers to completely meet the death care needs of families in the area. Milton, and his wife Racheljane, spent many hours with their architects, to develop a facility plan which would best serve the people of Pattison, Fulshear, and Katy - as well as those in Brookshire. "To build a funeral home that would be an asset to the area served has been one of their goals," shared the article's author.
As many funeral homes of the day, the Milton H. Schmidt Funeral Home also operated an ambulance service. Between the two essential tasks, theirs was a more than full-time commitment to the community: it was 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Milton and Rachel raised their family of four engagingly active children while successfully running the family business. And, how did they define "success"?
It meant excellence in service as well as immediate availability; and always having a warm smile and compassionate heart. "People who call on us really need us," shared Rachel, "and we intend to be there for them." This decision to be completely available to those in the community who need their assistance, was the driving force for Steve, and his wife Donna to build an additional funeral home in Bellville in 1986.
The couple worked together side-by-side until Milton passed away in 1975. Her loss did not stop Rachel; she stepped into the role of solo business owner quite easily. Some 9 years later, in 1984, she passed the reins to her sons, Steve, and Hank, but she remains active in the day-to-day operations of the firm.
This decision made by Milton and Rachel, to be a true asset to their community, was the driving force for Steve, and his wife Donna to build an additional funeral home facility in Bellville in 1986. Steve passed away in 2007, leaving the Schmidt Funeral Home in Donna’s capable and loving hands.
“We go the extra mile for the families who come to us; we are pleased to help them complete the essential paperwork – life insurance, veteran’s benefits –even when the family doesn’t choose to have the funeral or memorial service with our firm,” shared Donna. “It’s a reflection of our small town philosophy of ‘going the extra mile.’
Angels Come to Earth
“When Steve passed away,” confided Donna, “we had special angel pins created for the women of our family. This was such a welcome gesture, we have refined it so that all the women we serve who have lost their loved ones receive an angel pin. It brings them great comfort during the difficult days after the funeral.”
