On September 17, 2025, Amy Deon Parker Haralson passed away after a 27-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Amy was born June 19, 1956, in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Lamar High School. She achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Science from Texas A & M in 1978, following in her father’s footsteps. She was a diehard Aggie and was very proud of her Aggie heritage. Amy began her career as a forensic chemist at the Houston Police Department lab, where she worked for many years. While working at HPD, she met Walt, an HPD officer, and they married in 1983. She then worked at Goodyear in the lab for several years before becoming a co-owner in a tearoom in League City, where she was able to use her extraordinary dessert-making skills.
Amy had a strong faith throughout her life. When she felt a calling to the ordained ministry, she studied at SMU, getting her certification from the Perkins School of Theology in 2010. She first served as an associate pastor at St. Luke’s in Houston, several other churches near Navasota (as a circuit minister), and finally at Bellville Methodist Church.
Walt and Amy were dedicated supporters of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving for more than 20 years on various committees before health issues prevented them from continuing to participate. In 1998, Amy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She was a fighter who worked hard to overcome the challenges of Parkinson’s. Her family moved to “the ranch” in 2005, where she loved the countryside, the beautiful sunsets, riding the horses, and loving on their many pets.
Amy also enjoyed entertaining, baking, shopping, visiting with friends, her women’s group at church, and all her church family until her physical limitations prevented her from continuing doing those things. She loved having her family close. She was very happy that her love of horses was also felt by her daughter, and she enjoyed Holly’s visits to go riding. Amy and Walt were truly soulmates, and she will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, Leon and Doris Parker. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Walton Jay Haralson, and her children, Holly Victoria Haralson and William John (Jay) Haralson. Other relatives include her brother-in-law, Paul Haralson (Phylis), 2 nephews, one great niece and one great nephew, her cousins Frances Jane Tinney, Devin Tinney of Navasota, Lacey Marshall, and several other cousins in Huntsville, and her beloved Sasquatch and MoJo.
A celebration of life will be held at Bellville Methodist Church on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
