Belinda Williams Weatherly

   Belinda Louise Williams Weatherly, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and disciple of Christ, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, with family by her side.

   Belinda was born in Gainesville, Texas, on November 7, 1946, to Floyd and Margaret Williams. After living in Ohio and Mississippi, her father moved the family back to Texas and his beloved Rio Grande Valley. Belinda graduated from Harlingen High School, where she was an active member of the theatre company and her church choir. She obtained a degree in Drama from the University of Houston and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing. Following graduation, Belinda began an honored and distinguished career at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she was known as a passionate and fierce advocate for the well-being of her patients and their families.

    In 1974, Belinda met Jim Weatherly, and after their second date, she graciously accepted his marriage proposal. They wed on May 17, 1975, and together they shared 51 wonderful years, building a life centered on faith, family, and service. The couple joined St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in the early 1980s and were active members of the Randy Smith Sunday School Class.

   Belinda dedicated much of her time to serving others and caring for the environment. She was a Master Naturalist and a Master Gardener. She committed herself tirelessly to preserving the native prairie where she and Jim lived, establishing it as a migratory route for native birds. Belinda was a beekeeper, a youth mentor at West End Elementary, and a member of The Herb Society of America, the Culinary Society, the Quilt Guild, the Thursday Ladies Sew Group, and the Round Top Book Club. She also spent years singing in the St. Cecelia Women’s Choir. She crocheted prayer shawls and made quilts for new babies, college bound children, and survivors of trauma. 

   Belinda’s belief in Jesus was a central part of her life. She lived her faith by accepting and loving others, greeting everyone she met with grace, compassion, and empathy. She was a prayer warrior and could often be found quietly sitting with her Bible, a notepad, and her written prayer list. On the family group chat, she shared pictures of the most beautiful sunrises and accompanied them with quotes and Bible verses, always reminding her family to put God at the forefront of each day. 

   Belinda was special to everyone who knew her, but undoubtedly, her most cherished role was that of “Memops,” as her grandchildren affectionately called her. Memops was up for anything when she was with her grandkids. She jumped on trampolines, swam in oceans and lakes, explored the bayou, hiked in the mountains of Colorado, kayaked, and attended countless basketball and volleyball games, dance recitals, and graduations. Memops spent hours with her grandchildren in her garden, her kitchen, and her sewing room. She taught them the names of plants, birds, and constellations. She put them to work by enlisting them to weed, water, and maintain her garden. Memops was also known to simply sit with them, talking, listening, and laughing. She relished every moment in their company.

   Belinda was preceded in death by her parents and her son, James Stephen Weatherly. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Weatherly; her son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Sidney Weatherly of Richardson, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Weatherly Glazner and Daniel Glazner of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren: Avery Weatherly, Harper Weatherly, and Dawson Weatherly of Richardson, Texas, as well as Scarlett Glazner, Emmaline Glazner, and Annabelle Glazner of Houston, Texas.

   Belinda was laid to rest at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Industry, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family and held in God’s eternal care.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77027, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
