It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of
Betty May Malone Burger
87 Years Old
Betty passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, with the love of her life holding her hand and surrounded by family.
Betty was born July 31, 1938, to Horace Milton and Connie Lee Fitzgerald Malone in Newgulf, Texas. She was raised in Pledger, Texas, and went to Boling schools until she moved to Sealy, Texas, with her mother and brother when she was a sophomore in high school, where she met her one true love, John Royce Burger. She finished her education at Sealy High School and married Royce on November 15, 1956.
Betty was the ultimate stay-at-home mom and raised five children while Royce provided for the family until her youngest sons were in high school. She eventually went to work for the Sealy Post Office as a rural route carrier in 1993 and retired after 18 years.
Betty was a true cowgirl living and working with her family on their ranch in Pledger, Texas, where they still had cattle drives, and would sleep under her trusted horse, Fellow. She was a horsewoman through and through and enjoyed training and riding them. She and Royce made sure all of their children could ride and had their own horses. Several local ranchers hired the Burger family to work cattle. She and Royce were told they had the best crew around.
Betty loved the outdoors, working in her flowerbeds and garden, sitting on the porch birdwatching, and hunting deer. She still has the record for the biggest buck in the family.
More than anything, she loved and cared for her family and enjoyed going to all of the sporting events, dance recitals, and everything in between that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in, cheering them on from the sidelines.
Betty loved to travel and has been to most of the 50 states in the USA and was able to travel to several other countries with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Connie Malone, her siblings, M.M.(Bud) Malone, Billie Delores Smith, and Garland Scott Malone, several nieces and nephews, and her precious grandson, Jay Burger.
She is survived by her husband, John Royce Burger, Sr. Children: Connie (Bill) Miller, John Royce (Laura) Burger, Jr., Bernice Burger, Robert (Robin) Burger, James (Beth) Burger, and Mary (Cowboy) Stanger. Grandchildren: Jeffery Burger, Shannon (Ronnie) Psencik, Amanda Burger, Jodie Burger, Kelly (Jason) Irwin, Nicole (Chris) Grimm, Tara (Wade) Seelye, Tori (Jonathan) Ogletree, Kaylee Burger, Mehgan Burger, Matthew Burger, Nicholas Burger, and John (Guthrie) Stanger, Special Brothers: Robert Dewayne (Catherine) Burger, and Roy Gene Burger.
Great-grandchildren: Chase and Madison Psencik, Savannah and Jaxon Seelye, Margaret Grimm, and Ella and Logan Ogletree.
Special niece Jean Smith and many other nieces and nephews.
