MYRTIS CAROLYN KITZMAN was born on November 2, 1939 in Galveston, Texas to Myrtis and Lovie Norton. She attended Texas City schools and started her first job at Shell Oil in downtown Houston. She met Norman Kitzman through his cousin while she was staying at the YMCA in Houston. They were married on February 8, 1958 in Texas City. Carolyn stopped her business career to be a “stay at home Mom” to her sons, Charley and Robert. After the boys were older, she went to work for the Royal ISD and served as their Business Manager. She was very involved in church and civic organizations. She was a member of the DAR and UDC, and a prior volunteer with Pattison Volunteer Ambulance Corp. For many years she was a Cub Scout den mother and Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her children: Charley and Mariann Kitzman of Bellville, Robert and Kamala Kitzman of Round Top ; grandchildren: Katie and Todd Tullis, Cason and Melissa Kitzman, Cody and Sonia Kitzman, Colton and Tedi Kitzman, Carter Kitzman, Christopher Kitzman, and Karalena and Austin Peoples. Her great-grandchildren are Kaia and Kynli Tullis, Conrad and Cora Kitzman, and Emerson and Elliot Kitzman. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Norton and wife Patricia of Houston. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Grace Kitzman who was a dear neighbor to her in Pattison and who later joined her at the Carriage Inn facility in Katy. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Harold Thomaston of Katy, Texas.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Norman; parents Myrtis and Lovie Norton; her mother and father-in-law Martha and Henry Kitzman and a sister, Ruby Vest as well as infant sons, Joel Emerson and Jon Michael Kitzman.
Carolyn loved people and visited with everyone she came into contact with while witnessing to them about her Savior. She met her illness (acute myeloid leukemia) head on and was determined to spend her final days with friends and family rather than being hospitalized in Houston. She cared for her family deeply and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as “Nana” to them and treated each one with much love and kindness. She absolutely loved the Christmas season and enjoyed entertaining especially during the holidays. She was excited that she was going to get to spend Christmas with Jesus this year! Her strong witnessing all of her life was truly a testament of how she loved her Savior.
May she always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, faithful friend, and a caring person.
