Donald James (Jim) Wass of Bellville, Texas passed away on Friday evening, October 31, 2025. He was 90 years old. Jim took his final breath in the comfort of his home on the Wass family farm, surrounded by his wife Sue and their youngest son Brett by his side.
Born August 13, 1935, to mother Doris (Tomlinson) Wass and father Donald Emmet Wass. Jim attended Purdue University with a focus in Engineering. He served in the Air Force as part of the Air National Guard and was activated during the Berlin Wall Crisis.
Jim married the love of his life, Sue, on September 20, 1969. They raised two upstanding boys, Don and Brett, in St. Louis until the 80’s when they moved to Texas.
Jim was a great father, husband and friend. A second dad to many of his sons’ friends. A man of few words, so you listened when he spoke. A quick wit, with very dry humor that always made you laugh, smile … or think. He had a great laugh, one that’s deep from your belly and filled a room. A true gentleman with southern manners. Always welcoming, always respectful, always kind.
Jim is survived by his wife Sue Wass of Bellville; son Brett (Monica) Wass of Houston; daughter-in-law Mandi Wass (Glenn Soileau) of Bellville; sister Elizabeth Swartzel of Michigan; grandchildren Jolie (Ariel) Urbina of Willis, and Brayden and Ashlynn Wass of Houston. He is preceded in death by his eldest son Donald E. (Don) Wass and his sister Suzanne Wass.
There will be no funeral or visitation. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday November 15 from 11am to 1pm at the Wass family residence.
