Dwain Hugh Utter

Dwain Hugh Utter, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, husband, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2026, in Bellville, Texas, at the age of 83.

Born on January 21, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Dwain was the cherished son of William J. and Oleta B. Bishop Utter. From his early days growing up in Corpus Christi, through time spent living in Sugar Land, Dwain’s journey was marked by unwavering devotion to his family, his community, and the work he loved. Eventually, he made Bellville his home, establishing deep roots and leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Dwain’s family always held a central place in his heart. His love for his family was evident to all who met him. He especially treasured his close bond with his sister Marla, with whom he shared many memorable trips in recent years. A devoted and caring father, Dwain made special journeys to Florida to spend precious time with his daughter and her family, demonstrating his commitment to staying connected across the miles.

He was known to many as the “Answer Man,” a testament both to his resourcefulness and to his willingness to help others solve any problem they brought his way. Alongside his beloved wife, Kitty, whom he married on January 16, 1976, Dwain was an entrepreneur at heart. Together, they owned and operated the Shell Station, car wash, and washateria in Bellville and Sealy. Their entrepreneurship extended to servicing and installing car washes throughout the Houston, San Antonio, and Austin areas, where Dwain’s reputation as the person who always had the answer only grew.

Dwain’s legacy is carried forward by his loving family. He is survived by his children: Glenda Green, Edward Wain Utter, Cindy Bryant, and Steven Gilmore; his grandchildren: Tyler Henderson, Rowdy Johnson, Charles Johnson, and Timmy Green; and his great-grandchildren: Kayleigh, Jayden, Waylon, Rowdy Jr., and Brycelyn. He is also remembered with love by his sister, Marla Garner, and brother-in-law Wes Atwood. Dwain’s memory is cherished by his spouses, Tim Green, Howard Bryant, and Teresa Gilmore. Each played a unique role in his life and will carry his memory in their hearts.

He now joins those who passed before him: his parents, William and Oleta Utter; his wife, Kitty; his siblings Joleta Chapman, Cheryl Loveday, William Utter, Rozanne Utter, and Karen Atwood; his brothers-in-law Richard Chapman, Troy Loveday, and Buddy Utter; and his granddaughters Kelsey Johnson and Reagan Johnson. Their reunion brings comfort to those he leaves behind.
