Ellen Gregory

Ellen (Vail) Gregory, 77, of Katy, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Ellen was born December 2, 1944, in Bastrop, Louisiana, the daughter of Jerry and Norma (Foster) Vail. She grew up and attended school in Bastrop. On June 4, 1962, she was united in marriage with Dwain Gregory in Bastrop. They lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas before making their home in Katy, Texas in April of 1967. In 1977, they opened, owned, and operated Gregory’s Wrecker Service in Brookshire.

Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a member of Pattison First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her sons: Ronnie Gregory of Lovelady, Randy Gregory and wife, Chastity, of Katy, and Richard Gregory and wife, Karen Lightsey, of Brookshire; eight grandchildren: Josh, Ashley, Teresa, Dwain, Kassidy, James, Abigail, and Dillon; three great-grandchildren; sister: Arlene Straughn and husband, Larry, of Hutto; brother: David Vail of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Norma Vail, and husband, Dwain Gregory.

The family requests memorials be made to Schmidt Funeral Home to help alleviate the funeral expenses.
