James "Jim" Richardson Ainsworth

James Richardson Ainsworth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Columbus, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on September 3, 1938, in Houston, Texas, James—known to many as Jim—lived a life marked by devotion to his family, deep faith, and enduring community involvement.

Jim was the eldest son of Nicholas Richardson Ainsworth and Dorothy Frew Ainsworth. After growing up, he spent meaningful years in Orange, Houston, and Cat Spring, Texas, shaping lifelong memories and friendships along the way. On June 18, 1960, Jim married Carol Grisbee at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston, beginning a marriage that spanned more than six decades. Together, Jim and Carol built a loving family, sharing adventures and steadfast support throughout every season of life.

Jim was the proud father of Shelly Bracher (husband Alan) and Scott Ainsworth (wife Lisa). His legacy lives on through his adored grandchildren, Cody Bracher, Caitlyn Bracher, Reid Ainsworth (wife Janelle), and Hailey Ainsworth, as well as his great-grandson, Denver Ainsworth. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Ainsworth; his brother-in-law, Vic Grisbee (wife Carolyn) and his cousin, Wanda Walker (husband Randy). Jim’s family meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

He is preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Richardson Ainsworth; his mother, Dorothy Frew Ainsworth; his father-in-law, Sidney Grisbee; his mother-in-law, Jennie Grisbee; and his sister-in-law, Melba Ainsworth. Their memories were dear to him, and he honored his roots throughout his life.

Jim lived his days with intentionality. He loved mowing and tending to his yard. Planning vacations was a special joy, and for 14 unforgettable summers, he travelled with his entire family, creating stories that will be shared for generations. On their 50th wedding anniversary, Jim and Carol celebrated alongside their children and grandchildren on a family cruise to Alaska, a journey he held close to his heart.

In addition to these family adventures, Jim was an avid Astros fan, rarely missing a chance to cheer for his team. He loved watching the Astros. His goal was to attend Astros games in all the different National League Stadiums. He fell three cities short, when the Astros moved to the American League. There was additional excitement each year as he attended every opening day game with his mother and brother Larry. As a young man, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while instilling core values in those he mentored. His commitment to the community extended onto the baseball field, where he coached Little League for many years, nurturing both skill and character in the boys he coached.

Jim was a man of deep faith and integrity, loving the Lord and finding purpose in church life. He was an active and longtime member of First Methodist Church in downtown Houston, where he participated in the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. He continued his leadership after joining Bellville Methodist Church and selflessly served as treasurer for many years. He met weekly for a lively game of dominoes and enjoyed his friends from the Disciples Class. His favorite Bible verse was Micah 6:8, which spoke to his lifelong pursuit: “to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

As a man with wisdom and discernment, Jim possessed a remarkably sharp financial mind, guiding his endeavors both personally and professionally. He carried these tools to a successful, lifelong career at Metallurgical Supply Company in Houston.

Above all, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, generosity, humor, and passion for living life fully. He leaves a rich legacy in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life honoring James Richardson Ainsworth will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bellville Methodist Church, followed by a luncheon and visitation. The church is located at 234 South Masonic Street, Bellville, TX 77418. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jim are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived.

Jim’s warmth, kindness, and devotion to faith and family will be dearly missed but ever cherished.
