James Martin Di Carlo

Jim, or more recently christened as FOS, was born James Martin Di Carlo on June 2, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, to Patrick & Mary Jane Di Carlo.

Jim’s journey on this earth was one full of love. He not only loved his family & friends, but he showed love every day with everyone along the way. The loss of his presence will leave a void in the hearts of the many that knew him, though also in the community at large. Even in his last few months, he radiated joy, optimism, and determination as his cancer slowly backed him into the ropes. And while we will always say, “He was so young,” we can rest assured that his life was full.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lisa, with whom he just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary, their two children Cole & Melissa, their five grandchildren - Luca, Summer, Daisy, Rilee Faith, & Garrison Jay - and his siblings: brothers Jeff, Pat Jr., & Paul and sister Joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pat Sr. & MJ, and his brothers, Joe & Jack.

Not long after beginning life as a young man, at the young age of 22, he met Lisa while traveling in Houston and they were married shortly thereafter. They began growing their family a few years later, spending the vast majority of their lives laying roots in Katy, TX. (We are actively waiting on a certificate to declare his being an honorary Texan from Governor Abbott.) Jim was a naturally gifted artist who translated that gift to design work in construction, though primarily pool building. A natural consequence of artistry is creativity, and Jim had that in spades as evidenced with innumerable ideas that never got past the initial thought phase, a few models & prototypes, a couple of patents (5121692 & 7559113), his own business, as well as founding a non-profit, Missing Hearts Foundation.

Jim, aptly-named, loved exercise, particularly time spent at the gym or practicing Jiu Jitsu. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed the movies, but really enjoyed spending his time with other people. As a husband & father, being present & involved was a priority. As a friend, acquaintance, or even just someone that he happened to make eye contact with, he made you feel seen, heard, and loved. Toward the end, he found additional communities in One Hope, a cancer support group at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, and with the wonderful nurses & medical team at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

There will be a memorial service at Kingsland Baptist Church (20555 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77450) at 11am on Friday, May 23, 2025.

In lieu of flowers & in memory of Jim, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or MDAnderson.org/Gifts. Our love & thoughts forever.
