February 21, 1943 — May 18, 2025

Bellville

Jeanel Joy Deshotels Alexander passed away peacefully at home in New Ulm, Texas, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the age of 82.

She was born on February 21, 1943, in Mamou, Louisiana, the daughter of Gilbert and Bathilde Deshotels. She married James William Alexander on June 4, 1960, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Mamou. Over the course of her life, she worked as an Office Administrator for C&J Pump and Vacuum Services and later as a Medical Laboratory Technician for Columbus Community Hospital. She was known for her love of all things Cajun, traveling, and gardening. Jeanel was especially grateful to spend the last twenty years of her life in New Ulm, sitting on the porch and enjoying the simple life.

She is survived by her son, James Robert Alexander, and his wife, Cyndi, who dedicated herself to caring for Jeanel through the most difficult stages of her battle with dementia; her daughter, Cristine (Art) Powell; her grandchildren, Vincent (Camille) Alexander and Nicole (Travis) Cody; and her great-grandchildren, Cason, Luke, Lucille, Amberly, Annalise, Laurant, and Baby Alexander, due in August. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James William Alexander.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Kathy Weige, Cecilia Piwetz, Patricia Faske, Amedisys Hospice Services, and the doctors and nurses at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Brenham.
