Jeffrey Philip Charnquist passed away at his home in Bellville, Texas, on the 19th of June 2025. He was born on the 5th of April 1962, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Susan Deutrich and James Charnquist. The family moved to Bellville in 1972, and Jeff quickly became a standout in Bellville Brahma athletics. He was a member of the great Bellville High School football teams of the late 1970s, including the 1977 team that finished runner-up in the 2A State Championship. Football had its place, but his love was track and field, and Jeff was a bona-fide star. He was a multi-event standout and qualified for the Track & Field State Meet in 1978, 1979, and 1980, medaling in the long jump and high jump, and winning the pole vault with a state-record height in 1980. For his achievements, Jeff was inducted into the Bellville High School Athletics Hall of Honor.
Jeff went on to attend the University of Houston on a track and field scholarship, where he competed alongside some of the greatest names in track and field history and where he created friendships that lasted for the rest of his life. After a devastating knee injury ended Jeff’s athletic career, he focused his time at the University of Houston on the study of music. Eventually, Jeff left school to become a full-time musician, traveling the world for the next 25 years while becoming a fixture in the Houston music scene. Though never ending his musicianship, he worked in real estate for years until moving back to Bellville in 2021.
Jeff was a dedicated father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his children, Trevor Charnquist, Taylor Charnquist, and Elise Tipps, his mother, Susan Deutrich, his siblings, Christine Jouett and Steven Charnquist, many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and more friends than you can shake a microphone stand at. He is predeceased by his father, James Charnquist.
Per Jeff’s wishes, his passing will be honored in a private ceremony with immediate family; however, the family hopes that Jeff’s life will be celebrated by countless others in settings of their choosing as they remember their beloved friend. In lieu of flowers or other customary remembrances, please consider going out and spending those dollars on live music…nothing would make Jeff happier.
