Jerry Thomas Dunn, born on May 9, 1940, in Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Bellville, Texas. He was 86 years old.
Jerry's life was a remarkable journey shaped by the land and waters of Texas, and by a spirit of adventure that touched many. He was the beloved son of James and Bernice Dunn. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jimmy Dunn, various cousins; and many cherished animal companions. Jerry is survived by many cousins and his cat, Connie, who remember him with deep affection and admiration.
From an early age, Jerry found himself drawn to the outdoors—a passion that would define both his career and his personal pursuits. Before building his legacy as a trusted guide, Jerry worked as a ranch foreman, mastering the demands of rural life and finding solace in the chance to fish whenever he could. His hardworking ethos and love for the wild led him to carve out his true calling as a fishing and hunting guide, where his outgoing personality and deep knowledge of nature made him a cherished mentor and companion to adventurers of all backgrounds.
Jerry's days were often spent on the water or in the field, sharing his expertise and enthusiasm with those eager to learn. Beyond his work, he also enjoyed golf, but it was fishing—especially bass fishing—that was his enduring passion. His reputation grew steadily over the years, culminating in his proudest accomplishment: at the age of 70, Jerry retired with distinction as the dean of Texas Bass Fishing Guides. More than the accolades, he valued the people he met along the way—the ones who became life-long friends, each connection a testament to his kindness and genuine interest in others.
Those who knew Jerry remember him as warm, approachable, and always generous with his time and stories. His legacy is not only in the expertise he shared but also the camaraderie he brought to every endeavor.
Jerry's family and friends, as well as all whose lives he touched, will gather in fond remembrance of a man who exemplified the spirit of Texas, cherished friendship and nature, and left footprints as deep as the rivers and lakes he so loved.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make memorial donations to the Burttschell Rescue Ranch (7157 Hillboldt Road, Sealy, TX 77474)
