Jo Ann Jones Hustede, 89, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation in Brenham, Texas.

Jo Ann was born on July 1, 1936 in Pattison, Texas. She was the oldest child born to Thomas Reese Jones, Sr. and Lera Inez (Greer) Jones. She lived a life rich with family, friends and so much love that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Jo Ann was raised in the close-knit town of Pattison, where she developed the qualities that defined her vibrant spirit. After graduating from high school in Pattison in 1954, she attended business school in Houston that led to her career primarily as a bookkeeper and office manager at a variety of different businesses around the area: Miller Motor Company, Riley Enterprises, Katy Christian Ministries Thrift Store, and Miller Exxon.

On June 22, 1957, she married Allen Hustede in a heartfelt ceremony at the Pattison Methodist Church, a union that brought joy and companionship throughout their years together. They made their home in Katy. This union was blessed with three daughters, Vicki, Deanda, and Kathi.

Known for her warm personality and quick wit, Jo Ann enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that highlighted her creative nature and love for life. She delighted in gambling on slot machines, expressing her artistic talents through sewing for her daughters and painting oil paintings (some of which still hang in her home). Jo Ann and Allen loved to go to local dances throughout the area; bringing their daughters with them was a special memory for them all. They taught their girls how to dance there, as well. She enjoyed watching Bill Gaither, Molly B’s Polka Party, old westerns and old country music shows. She enjoyed watching the Astros and any basketball game she found on TV. Her enthusiasm for her family extended to attending dance recitals, musicals, track and swim competitions of her grandchildren, traveling and fishing. These activities brought her happiness and connected her to those she loved.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Jo Hustede of Katy, Lera Kathryn (Kathi) Klussmann and husband Tim of Brenham; sister Judy (Jones) Springer and husband Albert of Huntsville; brother Tom Jones, Jr. and wife Sharon of Blessing; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Elizabeth (Klussmann) Kimmel and husband Jeff of Leander; Rachel Erin (Klussmann) Curry and husband Zach of Reisel; Brook Emily Klussmann of New Braunfels; Blair Evan Thoman of Philadelphia, PA; and Lauren Michelle (Thoman) Philbrick and husband Bennett of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter Alexandra James (A.J.) Curry of Reisel. Her legacy of love also lives on through numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted spouse Allen Hustede and her daughter Deanda Lynn Hustede Thoman.

A sincere thank you goes to the caregivers at Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation for their loving care since March 2025, and also to the care staff of Amedysis Hospice in the last month of her life. We appreciate you all so much.
