Joseph Ray Hurt, a dedicated community leader and beloved family man, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Brookshire, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on April 28, 1945, in Dickinson, North Dakota, Joseph was raised in Belfield, where he developed the values of hard work and community service that would guide him throughout his life.

Joseph devoted many years to his career as a Safety and Training Coordinator for Noble Drilling Company and the International Association of Drilling Contractors, ultimately serving as the Vice President for the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). His commitment to safety and training underscored his belief in the importance of protecting the workers around him and ensuring that they could work with confidence and security.

In 1972, Joseph married his beloved wife, Brenda, in Mott, North Dakota. Together, they raised a family that brought him immense joy. Joseph was a proud father to Owen Hurt (Melissa) of Monaville, Texas, and Joey Mullins (James) of Hurst, Texas. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Griffin and Karsynn, whom he adored and always made time for amid his many commitments. Joseph is also survived by many other loving family members.

His hobbies reflected his passion for both family and community engagement. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and deeply involved in coaching local kids' athletic teams, where he was known for his encouragement and sportsmanship. Additionally, Joseph contributed to the community by serving on the Waller County Fair Board and the Royal FFA Advisory Committee, demonstrating his dedication to promoting local traditions and gatherings. He was also an active leader of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Joseph found joy in simple pleasures, often spending time tinkering in his garage, working on his motorcycle, and restoring old vehicles, which spoke to both his creativity and mechanical aptitude. His presence in the community was impactful; he was regarded as a pillar of support, ready to assist friends and neighbors in their times of need.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Hurt and Gladys Owen Hurt, along with his brothers Cora Hurt and Dale Hurt, and his sister Angie (Hurt) Karel. Their memories will forever be a part of his legacy.

Joseph Ray Hurt leaves behind a rich legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
