Louis Smid

Louis Smid of Bellville, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the age of 61 years and 6 months battling cancer. Parents of Louis Smid are Gyula and Iren Smid.

Louis was blessed to have Dr. David Magness of Bellville, Texas, helping him during his illness and for his wonderful care. The staff at Avir Nursing Home and Luminous Hospice Care were great at taking care of him and his needs. Meagan Castro and Morgan Bright from Luminous Hospice Care went extra miles to make Louis’ end of life experience a blessing. These two ladies were always by his side when needed.

Louis was born on January 17, 1965, in El Campo, Texas. His parents moved and settled in Bellville, Texas in 1977. He attended the Bellville School District. He loved working with his hands, mainly enjoying yard work. Through his yardwork his customers became his family and some for 37 years.

He was someone who had character and enjoyed telling his stories or venting about different incidents that happened throughout the day and week. If any of his customers called him anytime day or night, Louis was there to take care of their needs, because that is the type of person he was to them. Louis left a legacy to his employers and friends of his dedication, hard work and generous empathy to everyone.

He is survived by his brother Julius Smid and wife Lillian of Lolita, sisters Magdalena (Maggie) Kent and Elizabeth Vaughn and husband Virgil of Bellville.

He is survived by nieces Monica Knapp, Jennifer Millstid, Chelsie Groll and Marska Vaughn and Tammy Smid and nephews Whit Smid, Edward Vaughn and Travis Vaughn and several great nieces and nephews.

He chose to be cremated and spread over the land where he enjoyed his work the most.
