Margarita Medina Torres, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Houston, Texas. She was born on July 2, 1960, in San Pedro, Coahuila, Mexico. She grew up in Díaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas, where she met the love of her life, Juan Reyes Torres López. The two were united in marriage on March 17, 1981, in Edinburg, Texas, and soon after began building a life together in Brookshire, Texas.
Margarita was the heart of her family — the person everyone turned to for comfort, guidance, and unconditional love. She spent her life nurturing those around her. As a stay-at-home mother, she raised her two children with unwavering care and later poured the same love into raising her six grandchildren. Her home was always warm, clean, and filled with the comforting aroma of her delicious homemade meals, prepared with pride and served con mucho amor—a true sanctuary for those she loved.
She is survived by her loving husband, Juan Reyes Torres López; her daughter San Juana Esquivel and son-in-law Eli Andres Esquivel; her son Juan Miguel Torres and daughter-in-law Keanna Monet Lasker; and her beloved grandchildren Damián Esquivel, Jazlyn Torres, Eliana Esquivel, Jazele Torres, Jazira Torres, and Belén Esquivel. She also leaves behind her dear siblings Irma Lopez, Javier Medina, Jose Medina, Jaime Medina, and Jesus Medina, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
Margarita was preceded in death by her father Francisco Medina, mother Guadalupe Medina, and sister Sylvia Pineda.
Known for her kind heart, her love of shopping, collecting purses, and spending time playing lotería or enjoying bingo nights surrounded by her family and close friends, her comadres, Margarita found joy in life's simple pleasures. She adored watching her novelas, relaxing in the company of her loved ones, and celebrating holidays surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Whether in Katy or back home, she was happiest when her family was near.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home–Brookshire, 819 Waller Ave, Brookshire, TX 77423. A reception will follow at the Brookshire Convention Center.
