Mary Helen Guinn, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on December 14, 1938, in Waller, Texas, she brought joy to every corner of her life and the lives of those around her.
Growing up in Brookshire, Texas, Mary Helen Zadelsky, attended Waller High School before embarking on a remarkable career. For 33 years, she dedicated herself as a secretary in the Oil and Gas field, most notably working for Shell Oil. This role not only demonstrated her strong work ethic but also her ability to forge meaningful connections with those around her, earning her the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
On November 7, 1959, Mary Helen married her husband, Vern Guinn, in Katy, Texas. Their 66-year partnership was filled with laughter, love, and shared passions, particularly their commitment to their farm and their love for travel. Mary Helen's great sense of humor and her talent for cooking were some of the many attributes that endeared her to everyone she met. One of her favorite hobbies was dancing. In fact, her love for dancing guided her and her husband to dance on the Lawrence Welk Show, a testament to her vibrant spirit and zest for life.
Mary Helen was not just a woman of great humor; she was also a steadfast figure of faith and community. Her proudest accomplishments included her deep involvement with Christ Lutheran Church in Pattison, Texas where she had been a member since childhood. Her unwavering faith served as a guiding light in her life, one that she shared generously with others.
Surviving Mary Helen are her loving husband, Vern Guinn of Brookshire, TX; her cherished family, including Teresa Curry and her husband David of Brookshire, TX, Laurie Wiggins of Staunton, VA. and her cousins, Gladys Cerny, Glenn and Brenda Cerny, Lloyd and Diane Cerny, Cindy and Anthony Mahalitc, and Dianne Cerny, of El Campo, TX.
She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Helen Mikeska and Louie Zadelsky, whose influence and love shaped her into the wonderful person she became.
Mary Helen Guinn will be deeply missed by her community, family, and friends. Her legacy of love, laughter, and faith continues to inspire all who knew her.
