Qian Yang

May 3, 1950 — July 2, 2025

Today, with the heaviest of hearts, we gather to bid farewell to my dearest mother — Ms. Qian Yang.

My mother was born on July 7, 1950, in Shanghai. Her life was a story woven with hard work and perseverance.

As a child, she attended Changzhi Road Primary School and later transferred to Maoming Road No. 1 Primary School. In 1964, she enrolled in Changle Middle School. In 1968, during one of China’s most difficult times, she answered the nation’s call and was sent to work in the rural fields of Huoshan County in Anhui Province. In those extremely harsh conditions, she grew strong and resilient. Upon returning to Shanghai, she joined the Shanghai Tobacco and Sugar Company, where she worked diligently and conscientiously.

In the 1980s, my mother brought me, then just a young child, to Shenzhen. There, she enrolled in the Finance and Trade Kindergarten and pursued her training to become an early childhood educator. Life during that time was tough, but she never complained. She always faced life with optimism and strength. She was the kind of woman who never backed down from hardship, who used her hands and her heart to hold up the sky for me.

After returning to Shanghai in 1990, my mother did not choose a life of comfort and ease. Instead, she embarked on an entrepreneurial path. She ran a bookstore, managed a flower shop, and later became the general manager of Oriental Hair Salon, earning deep respect from her colleagues and clients alike.

Later, together with my father, Mr. Yonghua Shi, she co-founded the restaurant “Zhou Tian Zhou Di.” Through their commitment to quality and service, the restaurant became a beloved place for many in Shanghai — warm, sincere, and down-to-earth. My mother’s vision and foresight in business were truly admirable. Many of her friends would say she was someone who “saw further and acted more steadily than others.” She was earnest, hardworking, honest, and farsighted — a person who truly earned the trust and respect of all who knew her.

My mother was kind, honest, and generous. She always put others before herself. She never sought fame or recognition, yet in the eyes of her friends, she was always a “thumbs-up” kind of person — the one people genuinely admired. She never showed off, never quarreled, and simply dedicated herself to doing things right. Her entire life was devoted to love and responsibility.

In her later years, after moving to the United States, she was finally able to slow down and enjoy the warmth of being reunited with family. Her smile came more easily; her heart grew lighter. We all thought life was finally going to be gentle with her… but fate, sadly, moved too quickly.

My mother passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 74. She left us quietly, surrounded by our boundless love.

Dearest Mom, you worked so hard your whole life. You were strong your whole life. Now, may you rest peacefully in heaven, free from pain and weariness. We will always remember you — the woman who was earnest, diligent, honest, and visionary, who held up so many with her boundless love.

We love you, and we will miss you forever.
