Randall George Gunning, affectionately known as "Randy," passed away at the age of 62 on February 25, 2026, in Magnolia, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 31, 1963, in Jackson, California, Randy grew up in Sutter Creek and later moved to Auburn, California, before eventually settling in Magnolia six years ago.
Randy’s life was marked by service and commitment, as evidenced by his career with the California Highway Patrol and his dedicated role with the Todd Mission Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his professional endeavors, he proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he was deployed to Iraq. Randy also took great pride in his status as an Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication and commitment to leadership.
He married the love of his life, Robin Sanders, on August 14, 1994, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Together, they built a beautiful family, celebrating the joys of life and the bonds of love. Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Gunning; his daughter Megan (Jake) Payton; his son Ryan Gunning; his granddaughter Eleanor Payton; and his mother Barbara Gunning. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gunning.
Randy's legacy extends beyond his service and accomplishments; it will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His funeral service will be held on March 6, 2026, at Bellville Methodist Church in Bellville, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the extraordinary life of a man who devoted himself to serving others while cherishing the time spent with his family.
He will be missed dearly and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
