Richard William Prestridge

February 17, 1943 — June 28, 2025

Brookshire

Richard Prestridge, 82, of Brookshire, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2025. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 17, 1943. Richard was a remarkable man whose genuine kindness and fun-loving personality touched the lives of many. His legacy lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard attended Bellaire High School and later attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He then entered the United States Air Force where he honorably served as a meteorologist. A core value of the U.S.A.F. is “service before self.” A value Richard exemplified throughout his life.

Richard and his long-time friend, Harris Cloninger, later went on to launch Coastal Wire and Cable, where he served as co-owner and Executive Vice President. In ten years, they grew the company into a major global success. After selling the company in 1995, Richard and his wife, Melba, spent their time with family, friends, and traveling the world, including sailing on 55 cruises.

Richard served on the Board of Directors for Post Oak and First Interstate Banks. He was a long-time member of Brookshire Methodist Church where he served in several key leadership positions. Richard was an active member of the Lions Club where he served as President for many years.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and a wonderful friend to many.

He was known for his passion for life, sense of humor, love for music (particularly rock n roll), hot rods, and cruising … but he was mostly known for how much he loved his family and friends. The stories of how he impacted the lives of others are endless. He didn’t meet a stranger and always knew how to make people feel special and put a smile on their face. Richard loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lissie Prestridge; and his brother, Robert Prestridge, Jr. Richard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Melba Prestridge; his daughters, Alisande & (Michael) Bratcher of Katy, TX.; Sharalyn & (Sean) Hoffman of Arlington, VA., and Sophie & (Rob) Martin of Alabaster, AL.; his son, Ned & (Sarah) Prestridge of Katy, TX.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and his sister, Paula Fulsom.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookshire Methodist Church with Pastor Sue Lyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Brookshire Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Ramon Solis and his caregiver, Anna Palomarez, along with the doctors and nurses for their caring support during Richard’s illness.
