Robert Gray Gregory, 63, passed away at his home in Pattison, Texas on Sunday, July 20, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS. Pecan Bayou Ranch in Pattison is where he, his wife, Heidi, and his daughter, Piper, call home.
Gray was born on July 14, 1962 in Houston, Texas to Robert Philip Gregory and Ann Craig Gregory. The oldest of two boys, he and his younger brother, Paul, grew up in the Memorial area of Houston where he graduated from Memorial High School. Gray went on to attend Texas Tech University until starting his career in the pipeline construction business. He eventually moved to the ranch full time and began a second career in cattle ranching and rice farming with the establishment of PBR Land and Cattle.
Off of the ranch, Gray had a lifelong love for car restoration and racing - a passion he inherited from his father. It was at the 2011 Space City Pantera Club Annual Pig Roast held at his ranch in Pattison that he met the love of his life, Heidi Schrader. They enjoyed life together at the ranch and welcomed the second love of his life, their daughter, Piper Emerson Gregory on Christmas Day in 2013.
Gray loved spending time with his family on the ranch, as well as camping, roadtripping, and watching Piper compete in equestrian events. Gray was an accomplished vintage race car driver and loved racing all over the US and Europe. He and his team were recently recognized for the ‘Performance of a Decade’ as the first team to win each of the HSR (Historic Sports Car Racing) Classics races at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen (including the most wins in HSR Classics history) with the same car, team and driver line up.
Gray was also very passionate about serving the Royal FFA Livestock Show and Sale. In 2004 he was made honorary Grand Marshal of the Royal FFA Annual Parade.
He treasured his friendships and experiences throughout the years from high school, college, the pipeline industry, racing and his community in Pattison, Texas.
Gray will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to his family, friends and community.
Gray is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Ann Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Heidi Schrader Gregory and daughter, Piper Emerson Gregory; brother, Paul Gregory and wife Jennifer along with their children, Page Matthews and husband Josh; Ryan Gregory and wife Carly; Sarah Gregory and fiancé Anes Cherif; six great-nieces and nephews.
