Susan McClure

November 2, 1959 — July 18, 2025

Bellville

Susan Kathleen McClure, lovingly known as Susie, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on November 2, 1959, in Houston, Texas, Susie lived a life marked by determination, warmth, and an unwavering love for her family and her work.

A proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1982, Susie earned her degree in Structural Engineering and went on to build not only buildings-but bridges for the woman who would follow in her footsteps. She was a fierce advocate for women in engineering, construction, and project management, and her career was defined as much by mentorship and advocacy as by technical excellence.

Susie is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Mark McClure; her daughter, Sarah McClure (Josh Youngblood); and her siblings, Mark (Karin) Volk and Debbie Walther. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles “Dick” Volk and Sally Matthews Volk.

Those who knew Susie will remember her as independent, passionate, and -true to her nature- just the right amount of strong-willed. Whether she was solving a complex engineering challenge or standing up for what she believed in, she did so with courage and conviction. At home, she was the heart of her family: a loving wife, a fiercely devoted mother, and a woman who stood strong in everything she believed.

She was also a devoted and loving friend-the kind who remembered birthdays, showed up when it mattered, and nurtured lifelong friendships that stretched across decades and state lines. Her laughter, honesty, and fierce loyalty left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to call her a friend.

Her legacy lives on in the structures she helped build, the women she uplifted, and the family and friendships she held so dear.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Montgomery County Community Foundation – Susan McClure Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship will support women pursuing degrees in engineering or construction management and will be administered by Education for Tomorrow Alliance. Donations can be made at: Montgomery County Community Foundation|Kindful or mailed to 2001 Timberlock Place, Suite 500, The Woodlands, TX 77380.
